Reaction of Strength-Duration Curve in Peripheral Nerve Paralysis

Abstract
In recent years the electrodiagnosis, which has been newly applied in research for the clinical neuro-physiology, is mostly used for the diagnostic procedure of -neuro-muscular disease.
Abnormalities of the peripheral nervous system. or skeletal muscle, it¢¥s quality and sites, degree of the nerve injuries and it¢¥s ability to regenerate can be specifically detected by¢¥ the ¢¥use of strength duration curve.
Therefore, It is decided to classify if there were any relationship between electric current intensity and time by using strength duration curve in 35 muscles of 18 patients and obtained the results as the followings.
1. The sex ratio between male and female was 16(89%) to 2(11%) and the age group between 15 and 49 years had the most of 78%.
2, The complete degenerative reactions have appeared in 10 muscles of 6 patients and their chronaxies were between 6. 10 and 41.00 ms with the mean values of 19.18 ms whose values are 18.78ms, in average, higher then that of control group.
The rheobase range was 1.70 to 9.40 mA with the mean value of 5.58 mA. This showed 1.96 mA increment as to the control group value of 3.62 mA. The strength duration curve showed steeper and shift to the right at 4 to 15 mA, 15 mA, 5 between looms and 30 to 5 ms position.
3. The partial degenerative reactions have appeared in 18 muscles of 9 patients and their chronaxie and rheobase values higher than that of control groups (5.18ms, 0.7mA), but there were not as high as they were in complete degenerative reaction group.
The strength duration curve showed smoother and shift to the left.
4. There was only a case that showed the kink curve 58 days after the neurolysis
5. Although those showed the symptoms of paralysis of peripheral nervous system, there ware 4
muscles that appeared with normal curve and 3 muscles did not show any reactions at all.
